Young Naturalist Art Course

In This Course we will be combining art with nature, by drawing, painting, printing, and exploring our local Oak Woodland habitat.

We will be learning how to draw and paint animals, botanicals, trees, rocks, weather patterns, and landscapes. This course will last a total of twelve weeks, with four weeks devoted to each category (animals, plants, landscapes).

We will be covering various measuring methods and techniques used by artist to acquire accuracy in their drawings and paintings, as well as covering various methods of recording and observation used by Naturalists. Emphasis will be placed on learning these 3 prompts in our sketchbook process:

  1. I notice!

  2. I wonder?

  3. It reminds me of…

Each student will be given a weekly assignments to practice in their sketchbooks, and asked to share at least one sketch or artwork each week, which will receive positive feedback.

Our hope is that each student will have acquired some real tools for drawing & painting the natural world with greater accuracy, observation, and wonder
